Oil painting on canvas attributable to Ventura Salimbeni (Siena 1569-1613). He was considered an epigone of Sienese Mannerism. He worked in various cities including Florence, Luca, Pisa. His works were highly appreciated, and he received several important commissions.
In this beautifully crafted painting, we find Salimbeni’s very personal vision expressed with his palette of lively tones, with delicate nuances that enhance the sweetness of the Madonna who in an unusual way, while bowing her gaze to the Child, raises a hand in a blessing gesture. Behind him the figure of Saint Joseph is almost overshadowed, painted in grisaille.
Good state of conservation.
