Modest Faustini (Brescia 1839, Rome 1891).
Italian painter, He studied at the Brera Academy and perfected his skills in Rome, where he was influenced by C. Maccari who
decorated the Senate, among other things, becoming famous in Umbertine Italy.
Faustini was first a genre and history painter. In this work she immerses herself in ancient Rome, her character is a young couple
of lovers bathed in light while she fills a jug of water at the fountain. Fresh, bright shades enlivened by the red of her tunic, which
is the focal point of the scene.
The female character is very similar to the portrait of Ciociara in the Brescia Museum.
Signed and dated at the bottom left. Oil on canvas, good state of preservation.
Beautiful contemporary ancient frame with fine carvings, black lacquer.
